I just finished watching the new short film I’m Here by Spike Jonze and I highly recommend seeing it if you haven’t already. The story is beautifully written and directed in a way that really nails how many of us may feel about love and relationships, yet it’s depicted through robots by whom we normally deem emotionless. The robots, who coexist with humans in the film, however take on a role that is much deeper in a way that they are recognizing their existence in life beyond what they were created to do. Spike Jonze has such and eye for opening up new worlds and brining so much imagination to the table and the subtle nature of the film is ideal. No to mention the music throughout the flick is great as well.

Lately I have been drooling over furniture design and planning my long journey in acquiring more and more of it to complete my place with. This past weekend I made my first trip to Ikea with a good friend and was blown away by the 2 story, gigantic warehouse and the amount of stuff they carried. I have a pretty refined, modern taste when it comes down to the look of things, but never sacrifice form over function.

One period of furniture design that has always been intriguing to me is mid-20th century Scandinavian for its polished style using simple yet compelling shapes. Modernity is a site dedicated around this period of design and showcases originals that can be purchased for a hefty price of course. Though everything is well over budget, they are still nice to look at. Maybe one day…

Recently, I completed the logo above for Blog Your Wine, which is an up and coming blog that is dedicated to everything wine and the culture that revolves around it. The project had a solid concept from the beginning when it was agreed upon that the identity had to somehow evoke a technical side to reference the blog, while also holding true to its main purpose with wine and its community. After numerous brainstorming sessions that pushed aside some initial ideas, the logo evolved into what you see here. While the company has barely scratched the surface, there are big plans for the future to push the site into new markets. I felt that with a strong identity from the beginning and one that could be easily recognized once out in the public, it would only help the company gain exposure sooner with a logo that can be synonymous with the brand as a whole and sustain a lasting impression no matter how far it goes in the future. Total mind blower. These luggage labels are from the “golden age of travel” from the 1900′s to 1960′s and were used as a small way to advertise cities and hotels. The illustrations, color combinations and typography of these things are incredible — and to think they were all created by hand! If I ever got something like this tagged to my luggage I would flip, it would seriously complete the trip. Something so simple and common as a luggage label can be designed so well that it makes you want to hang on to it forever. Then, after a good amount of time the paper starts getting old and worn and just makes it that much more appealing and sweet. Such a great source of inspiration. I could look at these things all day.

Coincidentally named Heart, this album has been on repeat on the player and in my head this whole past week. Each song is beautifully structured in its own way and the lyrics are really well written and will have you singing in no time. Amy Millan’s voice is amazing, one of my favorite female singers at the moment. What I love most about Heart however is the depth of the album as a whole and how easily it draws you in deeper and deeper with each new listen. Every song is great, but I just posted a few standouts below.

Im excited to announce that the new Atlas Store is now open and ready for business! The store has been in planning for awhile, but it’s finally here with 5 different prints that are ready to be shipped out and hung on your walls.
