Most matchboxes are no more than a couple inches in size, yet that didn’t constrain the awesomeness you see above in these old European matchbox covers. All of these could easily work as posters if they were 10 times larger, yet their small size sort of makes you appreciate them that much more. And even though I can’t translate most of the type, all of which is amazing by the way, there is something about different languages that I have always admired, especially within design. The imagery and play on words, no matter what language it might be in, can still communicate effectively and allow you to grasp the overall experience and concept the designer set out to get across. This in my opinion is what continually pushes the visual arts as a universal language around the world.

Eyke Volkmer’s Book Covers

Such great use of color and composition in these science fiction book covers by German designer Eyke Volkmers. Created in the 60′s and 70′s, the vintage airbrush style Volkmer used brings out a nice texture throughout each illustration. These however are only barely scratching the surface, he designed 163 in all for the “Goldmanns Weltraum Taschenbücher” series which can be viewed in its entirety here.

Via but does it float.

Going Green!

Going Green!

I’m truly honored to report that I am now a part of the wonderful and talented team at Greenhouse Studio. Words can’t even describe how awesome it feels. This is what I’ve worked really hard towards the past couple of years and I’m just blessed that I am able to do something I genuinely love. As always, thank you for the support!

You definitely don’t come across these gems on the road all to often, but when you do, you just can’t help but look and be taken in by their iconic status. What’s great about these vintage gas signs is how minimal in nature they are. The simplistic, yet paragon quality of their heyday still shines through amidst the decades of wear and tear. As you can see, Gulf has always been a favorite of mine.

The 76 Gasoline sign might be the one that is still around the most due in part to this “Save the 76 Ball” campaign.

It has always been a dream of mine to visit, or if the opportunity ever presented itself, live in NYC one day. What ever the case, at least there will always be pictures I can marvel over, what better than through the lens of a polaroid. The New York City Polaroid Project by Andrew Faris beautifully captures the raw detail of the city streets, away from the large crowds, that you don’t always get to see in other photo sets.

This interesting house by Rocha Tombal Architecture entitled, House Bierings, really caught my attention. The structured use of basic shapes along with the wood exterior that covers the entire home, including the roof, make for something you just don’t see in your ordinary neighborhood. With some good looking furniture and a landscaped yard this would be one awesome bachelor pad.

Check out more images of House Bierings along with the project details here.
