Hi, thanks for stopping by the visual communication site of Brian Nelson, creatively known as Atlas. What first started out as a passion for art since the very young age of 4 has now grown into a love for both art and design and a passion that is deeper than ever. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, I graduated from the University of North Florida with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. After years of experience back home I'm now currently working as an Art Director / Designer at The Morrison Agency in Atlanta, Georgia.
Atlas embodies many hidden symbols that speak upon how I view myself as a designer which form the backbone behind my identity. Strength, wisdom and intelligence resemble the Greek god of the same name and are the core philosophies within my body of work and is a style that has proven to be timeless, regardless what period it falls in. (Cool side note: In Greek philosophy, Atlas also governs the moon which is totally sweet because I'm a space nerd and I wanted to work for NASA when I was younger.)
My identity also corresponds to a road map or atlas. One that guides people from one point to the next and to the discovery of a new destination that brings about growth and change. This is the outlook I have on myself as a designer, where throughout each project and the years that pass, my styles and tastes will continuously grow and evolve. Over time, viewers will be taken to different points in my life as a visual artist, allowing them to explore my creative techniques and decisions throughout the course of my career.
To me, design is the most compelling and convincing way to visually communicate with an audience. When the work speaks for itself, yet is thought provoking and intuitive in nature, it has done its job. This is my vocation as a designer and is the quality I strive for within each body of work, whether it be personal or professional. I believe a design only has one opportunity to impress so it must be efficient throughout the entire process, concept and all.
Here, at iheartatlas.com, you will find what I love most about design and the visual/emotional culture that inspires me on daily basis through my blog. My portfolio embraces many selected works created over the past couple of years, all of which Im very proud to showcase. My heart is truly in it and I hope it shows.
I'm available for freelance, collaborative efforts and other design needs. Feel free to contact me even if you would just like to say hello.
Thank you for checking out my site. I hope you enjoy your stay.
